Begin by visiting the Red Pyramid, named for the color of its limestone, built during the reign of Pharaoh Sneferu, the father of Khufu. Next, explore the Bent Pyramid, which is considered the first true pyramid, as previous pyramids were stepped structures.
-
Afterward, head back to Saqqara to see the Step Pyramid, the most notable construction in the Saqqara necropolis, located south of Memphis. It was the precursor to the pyramids of Giza and all remaining Egyptian pyramids.
-
Enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant.
-
Finish the tour with a visit to the Great Pyramid of Giza, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, built for King Khufu. The tour also includes the nearby Pyramids of Khafre (attributed to Khufu’s son, King Khafra) and Menkaure (the smallest pyramid, built for King Menkaure, son of Khafra and grandson of Khufu), as well as the Sphinx, with its lion’s body and pharaoh’s head, and the Temple of the Valley, located next to the Pyramid of Khafre.
