In the morning, your tour guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in Cairo in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to start your exciting journey. Your day will include visits to the following incredible historical sites:
The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities
Your first stop is the Egyptian Museum, home to a vast collection of artifacts from the Pharaonic era. The museum houses over 25,000 pieces, showcasing 5,000 years of Egyptian art. Among the most notable exhibits is the treasure of Tutankhamun, which includes his furniture and jewelry, untouched for more than 3,500 years until Howard Carter's discovery in 1922.
Babylon Castle
Next, you will visit the Babylon Castle, a historical site whose foundation dates back to ancient times, possibly over 2,000 years ago. The castle walls are reinforced by Roman emperors, with walls that are 3 meters thick, and towers that rise 10 meters high and span 31 meters in diameter.
The Hanging Church
The Hanging Church is one of the most famous Coptic churches in Cairo. Its name comes from its position, built above one of the gates of the Roman Babylon Fortress. The wooden dome of the church is designed to resemble Noah's Ark, reflecting themes from the Old Testament.
Abu Serga Church
Your next visit is to Abu Serga Church, the oldest church in Egypt, dating back to the 5th century. It is believed to have been built on the site where the Holy Family sought refuge during their time in Egypt. The church is dedicated to Saints Sergius and Bacchus, whose remains are housed here.
St. Barbara's Church
This church, originally dedicated to Saints Cyrus and John, later became dedicated to Saint Barbara in the 13th century. The church is famous for housing some of the oldest and rarest icons of Coptic art, making it an important site for Coptic Christians.
Ben Ezra Synagogue
The Ben Ezra Synagogue was originally a church but was sold to the Jewish community in the 9th century to help pay taxes. It is now known for its historical significance and its connection to the Jewish community in Cairo.
Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque
The Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque, the oldest mosque in Africa, was established in 642 AD. Located in Fustat (the first capital of Islamic Egypt), it is a key site for understanding the early spread of Islam in the region.
Lunch
After the morning visits, we will take a break for lunch at a local restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional Egyptian cuisine (drinks not included).
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
In the afternoon, we will visit the famous Khan El Khalili Bazaar, Cairo's most vibrant market. A bustling mix of shops selling everything from spices to jewelry, the market is the heart of Cairo, where you can shop for unique souvenirs and local handicrafts.
After the tour, we will transfer you back to your hotel in Cairo.
