Abu Simbel Temples
Abu Simbel is a world-famous complex of two temples carved into solid rock—one dedicated to Ramses II, and the other to his beloved first wife, Nefertari. Construction of these temples took nearly 20 years, during the reign of Ramses II. They remain incredibly well-preserved, having been buried under sand until the 19th century.
The temples are impressively located on the banks of the Nile, between the first and second cataracts. Their sheer size and beauty would have made them famous in their own right, but they gained additional global recognition when they were relocated to save them from the rising waters of the Aswan Dam.
Your expert guide will take you on a two-hour tour, uncovering every detail of these ancient structures. You’ll learn about their history, why they were preserved for centuries, how they were relocated, and the international efforts that helped ensure their survival.
After an unforgettable exploration, we’ll return to Aswan, concluding your visit to one of Egypt’s most remarkable historical sites.
