Giza Pyramids
Your first stop will be the iconic Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. The three major pyramids are:
- The Pyramid of Khufu (also known as the Great Pyramid), the largest and most famous.
- The Pyramid of Khafre, the second-largest pyramid, which still retains some of its original casing stones.
- The Pyramid of Mycerinus, the smallest of the three.
You will also have the opportunity to explore smaller pyramids known as Queen's Pyramids, where the wives and family members of pharaohs were buried, along with surrounding tombs and labor villages.
Great Sphinx of Giza
Next, you will visit the Great Sphinx of Giza, an awe-inspiring monument carved from a single piece of limestone. The Sphinx is a mythical figure, representing a lion with a human head—believed to be the face of Pharaoh Khafre. You'll learn about its fascinating history, including the original red ochre paint and the significance of the mysterious beard.
The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities
After the Pyramids, you’ll head to The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, home to an exceptional collection of artifacts from Egypt's ancient past. Here you will find over 25,000 pieces of art, including the treasures of King Tutankhamun, which were discovered in his tomb by Howard Carter in 1922. The collection includes stunning jewelry, furniture, and statues, offering a glimpse into the life of Egypt's ancient rulers.
Lunch
After your museum visit, enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant. You’ll be treated to traditional Egyptian dishes, allowing you to experience the local flavors. (Note: drinks are not included in lunch.)
Khan El Khalili Bazaar
Your next stop is the vibrant Khan El Khalili Bazaar, one of Cairo's oldest and most famous markets. It's a bustling hub where you can explore a wide range of goods, from traditional Egyptian spices to beautiful jewelry, handicrafts, and textiles. The bazaar offers a chance to shop for unique souvenirs and immerse yourself in the local culture.
Return to the Hotel
After a day filled with fascinating history and culture, we’ll take you back to your hotel, where you can relax and enjoy the rest of your evening.
This memorable day is just the beginning of your Egyptian adventure!
In the morning, after checking out from your hotel in Cairo, you will take a short domestic flight to Aswan (about 1 hour). Upon arrival, your tour guide will be waiting to start your exploration of this historical city.
Aswan High Dam
Your first stop is the Aswan High Dam, a modern engineering marvel completed in 1970. It was built to control the flooding of the Nile, improve irrigation, and generate hydroelectric power. The dam is one of the largest in the world and plays a crucial role in Egypt's economy and agriculture.
Unfinished Obelisk
Next, you'll visit the Unfinished Obelisk in the ancient red granite quarry. This obelisk, commissioned during the reign of Queen Hatshepsut, was meant to be the largest obelisk ever erected, but it cracked during construction. It would have stood at 42 meters high and weighed 1,200 tons, offering fascinating insight into ancient Egyptian stoneworking techniques.
Philae Temple
Afterward, take a boat trip to Philae Temple, located on an island between the old and new Aswan Dams. This beautiful temple complex is dedicated to the goddess Isis and is one of the most iconic ancient Egyptian religious sites. It is intricately connected to the myth of Isis, Osiris, and Horus, and the temple's relocation in the 1960s due to the construction of the High Dam is an extraordinary feat of archaeology.
Nile Cruise
After completing your visits, you will board a luxurious Nile cruise boat in Aswan. Enjoy a delicious dinner on board as you begin your relaxing journey along the river. The Nile cruise offers spectacular views and is a wonderful way to unwind after a day of exploration.
Overnight will be spent on the cruise, offering comfort and scenic views as you sail along one of the most famous rivers in the world.
In the morning, after breakfast on your Nile cruise, your tour guide will accompany you to visit two iconic temples along the river:
Kom Ombo Temple
The first stop will be the Kom Ombo Temple, located on the banks of the Nile. This unique temple is dedicated to two gods: Horus, the falcon-headed god of the sky, and Sobek, the crocodile-headed god of the Nile. It is one of the few temples in ancient Egypt that was built symmetrically, with two entrances and separate sanctuaries for each god. Kom Ombo is especially important because of its association with Sobek, the creator deity and protector of the Nile, whose presence was vital to the ancient Egyptians. The temple is beautifully preserved and offers fascinating insights into both religion and architecture during the Ptolemaic period.
Edfu Temple
Next, you will visit Edfu Temple, one of the most well-preserved temples in Egypt. Dedicated to Horus, the god of the sky and the protector of the Pharaoh, this temple is renowned for its grandeur and beautiful reliefs. Rediscovered in the 19th century, Edfu Temple is one of the most significant after the Karnak Temple. The temple's walls depict various scenes of Horus's triumphs over his enemies, and it offers a deep understanding of ancient Egyptian mythology and royal power. The impressive size and level of preservation make Edfu Temple a must-see site on your journey.
Nile Cruise
After completing your visits to Kom Ombo and Edfu, you will continue your journey on the Nile cruise. Enjoy lunch and relax as you sail along the river, taking in the scenic views of rural Egypt, passing villages, and observing daily life along the banks of the Nile.
In the evening, enjoy dinner on board, followed by an overnight stay on the Nile cruise, with more beautiful vistas to come as you continue your exploration of Egypt’s ancient wonders.
In the morning, after breakfast on your Nile cruise, your Egyptologist guide and driver will pick you up in a private, air-conditioned car to start your exciting day of exploration. Your first stops will be some of the most iconic sites in Egypt, located in Luxor:
Valley of the Kings
Your day will begin with a visit to the Valley of the Kings, a fascinating burial site that holds the tombs of many of Egypt's New Kingdom pharaohs, including the famous tomb of Tutankhamun. The valley is carved into the desert cliffs and is home to elaborately decorated tombs filled with treasures meant to accompany the pharaohs in the afterlife. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore three tombs from the period, each adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and stunning wall paintings that depict the pharaohs' journey to the afterlife.
Temple of Queen Hatshepsut
Next, you will visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, located at Deir el-Bahari. This magnificent temple was dedicated to one of Egypt’s most successful and revered female pharaohs. The temple rises dramatically from the desert plain in a series of terraces, blending seamlessly with the surrounding limestone cliffs. The architecture and grandeur of this temple are breathtaking, and it provides insight into the reign of Queen Hatshepsut, who was known for her trade expeditions and monumental building projects.
Statue of Memnon
Your tour continues with a stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. These colossal statues, standing at nearly 20 meters tall, are all that remains of Amenhotep III’s vast funerary temple. The statues were originally intended to guard the entrance of the temple and have stood for over 3,000 years, enduring the test of time and natural elements.
Nile Cruise in Luxor
After exploring these incredible sites, you will return to your Nile cruise. Enjoy the scenic views as you relax on board and sail along the river. Lunch will be served as you continue your journey, taking in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner on board as you relax and unwind. Overnight stay on the Nile cruise.
In the morning, after breakfast on your Nile cruise, your tour guide and driver will pick you up in a private, air-conditioned car for a memorable day of exploration in Luxor. You'll start your day by visiting two of the most impressive and historically significant temples in Egypt:
Karnak Temple
Your first stop will be the Karnak Temple, the largest religious building ever constructed, and one of the most magnificent monuments in Egypt. The temple complex dates back to around 2000 BC, with structures built by several pharaohs over the centuries. The vast complex includes majestic pylons, colossal statues, and the famous Hypostyle Hall, which boasts 134 massive columns. The temple is dedicated primarily to the god Amun-Ra, the chief deity of ancient Egyptian religion, and holds nearly 3,000 years of history within its walls.
Luxor Temple
Next, you will visit Luxor Temple, located in the heart of the modern city. This ancient temple, constructed by Amenhotep III and later expanded by Ramses II, is unique because it showcases the continuity of Egyptian history through different periods. The temple features not only pharaonic monuments but also later Greco-Roman and Coptic additions, making it an exceptional example of Egypt's evolving religious architecture. The Avenue of Sphinxes, which once connected Luxor Temple to Karnak, is an iconic feature of this grand complex.
